A Medicare Card provides the cardholder with a rebate for medical expenses under Australia’s Medicare system.

This provides Australians and permanent residents access to various health and hospital services, either free or at a minimal cost.

Funding for Medicare comes from Australian taxpayers, who contribute 2% of their taxable income to support its operations.

Depending on your financial situation, an individual may qualify for a reduction or exemption from the Medicare levy.

A Medicare card can be used for telehealth, medical certificates, and script-based services.

This system also allows subsidized medications under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

What Criteria is Required for a Medicare Card?

With a Medicare card, you can get free or lower-cost medical care from healthcare professionals, hospital treatment, and mental health care.

The benefits received under this are based on the fees set by the Australian Government, known as the Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS).
